Anakin Skywalker is one of the most tragic stories in the Star Wars Saga. Born a slave on Tattoine from a virgin birth, he earned his freedom in a pod race run by the gangster, Jabba the Hutt. Soon he and his mother, Shmi left Tattoine for the more comfortable places in the universe. A young Jedi Knight named Ob-Wan Kenobi took Anakin under his wing, and began to tutor him in the ways of the Force. After a brief stint as a pilot fighting for the Galactic Republic in the Clone Wars, he began to fall victim to the lure of the Dark Side of the Force. After joining the Emperor Palpatine in his New Order, he began to assist in the Jedi Purge, killing the legions of Jedi in the galaxy. After a confrontation with his former friend, Obi-Wan Kenobi, he was crushed into a helpless, nearly lifeless mass of flesh as Kenobi fled with Anakin's wife and twin children. Palpatine had him rebuilt with machinery, making him into Darth Vader, the embodiment of the New Order. For 20 years, he took life without mercy or care, serving the Emperor blindly, until the day he met his son, Luke in the bowels of Cloud City...
